Early-Onset Cancers: Investigating Etiology, Mechanisms, and Early Detection Strategies (RP1 Clinical Trials Optional)

National Institutes of Health · Deadline 2029-10-11

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites applications that investigate the etiology of sporadic non-hereditary early-onset cancers (EOCs: ages 18 to 49 years) and the underlying biological mechanisms that play a role in these cancers to inform prevention and control strategies. The proposed research is expected to advance the understanding of the unexplained rise of cancers in young adults. More specifically, studies should focus on one or more of the following: i) identifying what environmental or lifestyle exposures are driving the increase in the incidence of non-hereditary EOCs, and how these factors vary by patient demographics; ii) examining the biological mechanisms and host responses that underlie the increase in EOCs; and iii) identifying how those at increased risk of developing EOCs can be identified more effectively. In an effort to streamline the application process and sustain momentum in this critical research area, this NOFO supports both exploratory/developmental and standard research projects through a grant award instrument.

Pancreatic Cancer Detection Consortium: Research Units (U01 Clinical Trial Optional)

National Institutes of Health · Deadline 2029-11-05

Through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), NCI solicits applications for the Research Units (RUs), one of the two scientific components of the Pancreatic Cancer Detection Consortium (PCDC), to conduct research on early detection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and characterization of its precursor lesions to identify patients who are at high risk of progression to cancer. The PCDC will continue to address one of the four research priorities identified in the NCI's 2014 Scientific Framework for Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The PCDC will support research for the development and testing of new molecular and imaging biomarkers for detecting PDAC early and for identifying patients at high risk of PDAC (because of genetic factors, family history and/or the presence of precursor lesions) who could be candidates for early intervention. The PCDC-RUs will consist of multi-disciplinary teams and will undertake studies to: identify and test biomarkers measurable in bodily fluids for early detection of PDAC and/or its precursor lesions; develop molecular- and/or imaging-based markers of pancreatic cysts and determine which lesions are likely to progress to cancer; Awards up to $600,000.

Assessing the Feasibility of Incorporating Mechanisms in Multi-site Clinical Trials of Mind and Body Interventions on Whole Person Health Restoration (R33 Clinical Trial Required)

National Institutes of Health · Deadline 2029-11-16

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) announces this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for multi-site feasibility trials of complementary and integrative health approaches with physical and/or psychological therapeutic inputs (often called mind and body interventions) to reproduce and translate mechanisms of emotional well-being (EWB) into large-scale clinical trials that advance our understanding of whole person health. These early-phase multi-site trials are essential for 1) demonstrating that the mind and body intervention can be delivered with fidelity across sites; 2) demonstrating reproducibility and rigor in engaging targeted mechanisms of EWB by the mind and body intervention across sites; 3) assessing feasibility of participant recruitment and retention, as well as randomization; 4) assessing feasibility of collecting comprehensive clinical (whole person health restoration) and mechanistic (EWB) data across sites; and 5) exploring correlations between changes in mechanistic targets and clinical outcome measurements pooled across sites. By laying this groundwork, studies supported under this NOFO will advance the sci Awards up to $500,000.

NEI Translational Research Program for Therapeutics (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

National Institutes of Health · Deadline 2029-11-16

The purpose of NEI's Translational Research program (TRP) is the rapid and efficient translation of innovative laboratory research findings into therapeutics for use by clinicians to treat visual system diseases or disorders. The TRP will support the product development of biological, pharmaceutical, medical device, and/or combination therapies for any disease or disorder of the visual system. The TRP will utilize a bi-phasic, milestone-driven mechanism of award. The R61 phase can be up to two years and will support research that has demonstrated significant preliminary data but has not advanced to the level of clinical translation. The R33 phase can be up to four years and will support research that is in the final states of preclinical development with potential for near-term clinical development. The total duration of both R61 and R33 cannot exceed five years. The R33 is to focus on advancing a single therapeutic candidate through Investigational New Drug or Investigational Device Exemption (IND/IDE) enabling studies, filing an IND/IDE package with the FDA, and designing future clinical trials. R33 recipients must submit or obtain an IND/IDE application to FDA, or must transition

CONTAMINATED ALASKA NATIVE CLAIMS SETTLEMENT ACT LANDS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Environmental Protection Agency · Deadline 2029-12-31

The Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971 included the transfer of 44 million acres to Alaska Native regional and village corporations. Some of these lands became contaminated prior to conveyance (transfer) from a variety of past activities such as fuel storage, power generation, waste handling practices, mining, and other activities. These contaminants can pose health concerns to Alaska Native communities, impact subsistence resources, and impair economic activity. In the fiscal year 2023 omnibus bill, Congress appropriated $20 million for EPA to establish and implement a grant program to assist Alaska tribal entities with addressing contamination on ANCSA lands that were contaminated prior to the time of conveyance. Grants may be used for site assessment and remediation, as well as related community outreach and involvement. Eligible entities include Alaska Native regional and village corporations, federally recognized Tribes in Alaska, Alaska Native nonprofit associations, and inter-tribal consortia comprised of Alaskan tribal entities. Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis. As long as funds remain available, EPA expects to extend the closing date for this Awards up to $8,000,000.

Research Initiatives at the Naval Postgraduate School

Naval Supply Systems Command · Deadline 2030-01-13

This FOA is intended for proposals related to basic and applied research in the STEM categories, and not related to the development of a specific system or hardware procurement. The proposal submission process has two stages: I. Applicants are encouraged to submit a white paper first to Grants@NPS.edu, ; and II. Applicants must submit a full proposal through Grants.gov (do not submit white papers through Grants.gov, only full proposals) Applicants are encouraged to submit a White Paper in advance of a Full Proposal to minimize the labor and other costs associated with the production of detailed full proposals that have little chance of being selected for funding. Based on an assessment of the white papers, the responsible Research Program Officer will provide informal feedback notification to the prospective awardees to encourage or discourage submission proposals. The Research Program Officer may also, on occasion, provide feedback encouraging re-work to strengthen a proposal. White Papers may be submitted at any time during the open period of this FOA. A separate White Paper is required for each research proposal.
